Ivymount Outreach also provides Educational and Therapeutic
Group Programs for individuals with Autism, ADHD, Executive Function disorders, and
other developmental disabilities in the Washington, DC area. All
programs have been vetted and most have been developed or piloted at Ivymount
School.
In the area of Executive Function,
Outreach offers a unique blend of parent and student interventions in the
nationally published, research-based program Unstuck
and On Target! Developed and piloted at Ivymount, Unstuck targets
flexibility and problem solving. Applied Unstuck is offered as a followup program to participants that completed the Unstuck and On Target! program.
In the area of Social Learning,
Outreach offers social learning programs that target friendship and conversation skills. All
groups are targeted at specific areas of needs, such as understanding
friends and friendships (Secrets of Friendship and Friendship Mythbusters), developing Conversation skills (ConversationClub and Conversation Street), and how to make and keep friends (PEERS® for
young adults).
Please Note: Elementary aged participants should apply to a “Social Learning Program” and the Outreach team will place the participants into a specific program based on the participant’s strengths, needs, and appropriate peer group. Not all groups may run each session.
In the area of Self-Advocacy,
Outreach offers a group for transition ages students (ages14-18) that explores individual student's strengths and develops essential self-advocacy tools.
Some education/therapeutic programs include parent education classes that
correspond with student learning, creating a wraparound intervention program
that supports the entire family.
Application Process for Group Programs
Applying to an Ivymount Educational or Therapeutic Group Program is a collaborative
process. We work with families to find the right fit for their child’s social
learning, emotional regulation or executive functioning needs. To do
this, we review the materials in your application, meet your child in person
and then work with you to find the right program to meet your child’s needs. There
is a $50 application fee* for new participants applying to an
educational/therapeutic group program.
*Application
fee does not apply to Self Advocacy Program.
