This seminar will introduce teachers to the challenges associated with autism and ADHD that interfere with student’s ability to be successful in the classroom because of cognitive rigidity and poor reciprocal conversations skills.  Drawing from two Ivymount developed curricula (with collaborators at Children’s National Medical Center), teachers will get an overview of how Unstuck and on Target and Conversation Club curricula can be used to support the development of essential skills that enhance learning and self regulation.

Learning goals:

  • Teachers will be able to identify the core deficits associated with autism and their impact on academics, social interactions and behavioral regulation.
  • Teachers will become familiar with two direct instruction curricula targeted at elementary school children with autism.
  • Teachers will develop plans for integrating targeted interventions into their classrooms, using IEP pull out time, lunch or resource periods.
